Wisconsin Hunting Accessibility

Deer Hunting

· For Hunters: A list of  sponsors that make their land available for physically challenged deer hunts can be found at the Wisconsin DNR website. These sponsors are updated annually and land owner approval is necessary before hunting. 

 

· For Land Owners: The Wisconsin DNR website provides a copy of the Application and Authorization to Conduct a Gun Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities. This form should be completed in full and sent back to your local DNR wildlife biologist by June 1.

 

· A list of DNR Wildlife Biologists can be found  by searching "wildlife" on the Wisconsin DNR contact page.

 

· In conjunction with the Wisconsin DNR, The North American Squirrel Association (NASA) provides physically challenged hunters with special deer hunts. For nine days each fall, NASA and the Wisconsin DNR offer a nine day hunt in which hunters in need are paired with an able-bodied companion for safety and success. · The North American Squirrel Association also works with the Wisconsin DNR and The Badger States Sportsman Club to put on a special two day hunt at Goose Island Park outside of La Crosse. Turkey Hunting

·      For Hunters: The Wisconsin DNR allows hunters with Class A and C permits to hunt        in the following state parks.

· Natural Bridge State Park (Zone 5B)

· Nelson Dewey State Park (Zone 10B)

· Belmont Mound State Park (Zone 11A)

· New Glarus Woods State Park (Zone 12A)

· Rocky Arbor State Park (Zone 15B)

· Loew Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest (Zone 25A)

 

· To apply for the Spring Turkey Hunt, physically challenged hunters can use the regular application form (#2300-118) or can apply online.  The spring season applications are due December 10th and hunters must give their Class A or C permit number.  If the number of applicants exceeds the number of permits, a drawing is performed to determine which applicants are chosen. Hunters chosen in the lottery are allowed assistants for the hunt but must provide the park supervisor/property manager with the name and address of their assistant at least one week prior to hunting.

 

· For Land Owners: If you are interested in conducting a Spring Wild Turkey Hunt for physically challenged hunters, please fill out application this application; Form 2300-271.

 

Waterfowl Hunting

 

· The Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge teams up with the Wisconsin DNR once per year in October to offer a special Waterfowl hunt for the physically challenged. This hunt is limited to 14 hunters (must hold a Class A or C Hunting Permit) so be sure to submit your application early for next years hunt.  Applications are chosen at random for the weekend hunts and any applicant not chosen or interested in the weekend hunt may have the opportunity to select two week days to hunt. Bear Hunting

 

· The Northern Wisconsin Outfitters, located in Washburn, provides an opportunity for physically challenged hunters to hunt Black Bear in northern Wisconsin. Hunters have the choice of using a bow, rifle, or muzzleloader and the season usually begin in early September and lasts for 10 days. A lottery system is used for selection of hunters so please contact your Wisconsin DNR agent to be put in the lottery.
